July 7 Notes

This week I attended Shakira’s concert with some colleagues from Google. I was initially supposed to go to her concert last year in Palm Springs. She was supposed to start her world tour over there. She cancelled because there was too much demand for her tour. Then, someone shared some free ticket with me, and off we went! I definitely enjoyed her old songs in Spanish. I might be biased but I felt the energy level in the audience dropped with the English songs. It felt like we were suddenly at a Lady Gaga concert whenever she switched to English. My experience with Gaga was at Coachella and the crowd energy was uninspiring.

The audience was definitely mixed, meaning you could spot some native English speakers, so I think it is fair she sang some English songs. I wish she would have a version of her concerts that are only in Spanish, and advertise those. Of course, you can always go to Latam for that, but it feels more inconvenient.

On Wednesday we came to Province Town (Ptown for the close acquaintances) and spent three nights there. We had been here a couple of years ago in September, when the weather was shifting and starting to be cold. This time the energy was different. There were so many people in the streets, so much color from the blooming flowers, flags, idyllic sunsets.

Our hosts were great at showing us the town, its restaurants, tell us about the town quirks, and history. Overall we had three nice days exploring this side of the Massachusetts seaside.
